Abstract

SZLECHTER, Diego. Unrest in the managerial meritocratic realm: an issue in big companies in Argentina. Rev. Cienc. Soc. [online]. 2014, vol.27, n.35, pp.49-70. ISSN 0797-5538.

The classical assumptions of Labor process theory (Braverman, 1975; Panzieri, 1960) have assigned managers a dichotomist fate in which they would finally take part of working class or either would join the “capitalist class”. In the last ten years, we’re witnessing a new phenomenon in big transnational companies in Argentina: a process of wage overlapping between middle management and unionized workers, which is giving back managers to their salaried condition and compelling firms to search strategies to recompose their power. This way, new and varied resistance practices will emerge among a social group who used to be emblematic during the 90’s of the last decade and who also used to be aligned to the interests of big corporations.

Keywords : Managerial work; transnational companies in Argentina; resistance practices; wage overlapping; meritocracy.
