Abstract

EWIG, Gabriel Tenenbaum. Why adolescents are not the problem of crime in Uruguay?: Comparative analysis in double sense: infraction-crime and Uruguay-Mexico. Rev. Cienc. Soc. [online]. 2014, vol.27, n.34, pp.33-52. ISSN 0797-5538.

Over the past few years, the debate over insecurity, fear of crime and the age of criminal responsibility is claiming the attention of Uruguayan society, especially of politicians, media, public opinion and some social organizations. In this context, the punitive perspective focuses its attention in adolescent offenders as the cause of the increase of crime. In this sense, the text attempts to demonstrate with empirical data, why youth offenders are not the real problem of crime in Uruguay.

Keywords : Adolescent offenders; youth justice; age of criminal responsibility.
