Abstract

CALIFANO, Bernadette  and  KOZINER, Nadia Sabrina. Need and urgency alliance. Communication policies in the Argentine press (December 2015-January 2016). Dixit [online]. 2021, n.35, pp.17-33.  Epub Dec 01, 2021. ISSN 1688-3497.  https://doi.org/10.22235/d35.2591.

This article analyzes the treatment that the Argentinian press made of the communication policy of Mauricio Macri’s government (2015-2019) throughout the first two months of his administration. The work seeks to: a) identify the relevance of this issue in the newspapers Ámbito Financiero, Clarín, El Cronista Comercial and Página/12; b) characterize the main topics of media coverage; and c) comparatively study the ways in which the media evaluated the measures implemented. The research is conceptually based on communication policy studies related to critical political economy and content analysis of journalistic coverage and draws to the quantitative content analysis technique. The conclusion points out that the press gave great importance to the Government's communication policy. However, pronounced differences were found in relation to the topics that organized the media coverage and the assessment of public policy, which exhibited polarization features.

Keywords : communication policies; media treatment; content analysis; framing; Macri..
