Abstract

TARULLO, Raquel. “On Instagram and every day”: Informative repertoires of undergraduates in central Argentina. Dixit [online]. 2021, n.34, pp.15-29.  Epub June 01, 2021. ISSN 0797-3691.  https://doi.org/10.22235/d34.2265.

This article presents some of the findings of an interdisciplinary research on the information repertoires of young university students in central Argentina. Through a mixed methodology, which combined quantitative data collected through a digital questionnaire (n=491) and qualitative data obtained in semi-structured interviews (n=72), the results reveal the prominence of Instagram as a source of news and the relevance that this group gives to local information circulating in social networks of close contacts. In addition, the incidental encounter with news occurs not only in digital spaces, but is also part of family information routines, where traditional media continue to occupy a prominent place. Likewise, individual interest has an impact on activating a new phase of information habits that leads to a deepening in the consumption of content close to their motivations. These findings highlight the need to implement instances of information literacy at the university.
