| A peer-reviewed monthly journal, the Pan American Journal of
Public Health / Revista Panamericana de Salud Pública is
published by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO),
and serves as an important vehicle for disseminating research findings from the countries
of the Region in areas that relate to the Organization's purposes: to promote action and
coordinate efforts directed toward health promotion in the countries of the Americas; to
combat disease; to prolong life; and to stimulate people's physical, mental, and social
development. The journal publishes information of interest in the field of public health, especially as it relates to PAHO's technical cooperation programs, as well as news about the principles, actions, and achievements of the Organization and its Member Governments in improving health conditions and strengthening the health sector throughout the hemisphere. Beginning in 1997, the journal continues the Boletín de la Oficina Sanitaria Panamericana and the Bulletin of the Pan American Health Organization, and publishes original, peer-reviewed research articles in English, Spanish, and Portuguese with each article in Spanish and Portuguese containing an English abstract. The monthly pressrun for the journal is around 12,000 copies. It is distributed to public health professionals, technical personnel, researchers, and students involved in all aspects of the field in the Americas and elsewhere in the world. It is also available in major biomedical libraries. The abbreviated title of the journal is Rev. Panam. Salud Públ. / Pan Am. J. Public Health, which should be used in bibliographies, footnotes, bibliographical references and strips. |
| The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)
is an international public health agency with more than 90 years of experience in working
to improve health and living standards of the countries of the Americas. It serves as the
specialized organization for health of the Inter-American System. It also serves as the
Regional Office for the Americas of the World Health Organization and enjoys international
recognition as part of the United Nations system. The Organization's basic task is to collaborate with Ministries of Health, social security agencies, other government institutions, nongovernmental organizations, universities, community groups, and many others to strengthen national and local health systems and to improve the health of the peoples of the Americas. In its efforts to improve health, PAHO targets the most vulnerable groups including mothers and children, workers, the poor, the elderly, and refugees and displaced persons. |
